Title of Project:
The Effect of Pseudophosphatase MK-SYTX on Stress Granule Inducing Protein HDAC6.
Advisor: Shanta Hinton
Honors Department: Biology

Under stressful conditions, our cells will produce large stress granule that will cause neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. HDAC6 is known to induce the stress granule formation, whereas MK-STYX is inhibiting the formation. If we found that MK-STYX can negatively affect the activity of HDAC6, it would be interesting to see if MK-STYX can be used to treat those diseases.
